A Little About Me

Welcome! I believe healing starts with honest conversation — the kind that’s warm, human, and free of pretense. And, my approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, humor, and collaboration. I’ll share more about that later.

If you choose to work with me, we’ll mix together what’s working, season out what’s not, and cook up meaningful change that lasts outside the comfortable therapy space. Follow me to the end this page, as I whip this concoction together by sharing pieces of my journey which I hope helps you to relax and feel you already know me.

First, Choose Quality Ingredients

You’ll want to know about my training and credentials on how I stir healing psychotherapeutic recipes for my clients. Before founding ChatterSoupe, I served in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped my deep respect for resilience, structure, and purpose. Then, I focused on education, studying and practicing medical assisting, communication, psychology, marital and family therapy, and post-graduate work in organizational leadership and change management. More recently I added to the recipe seasoning drenched in Holy Spirit which guides my values and beliefs.

Second, add a little spice

For seasoning to your taste, I’ve shared a few selections from my Curriculum Vitae (CV) meant to assist and display some of the underpinnings of my mental storeroom. From this and other resources I’ll shape the therapeutic recipe to help give rise to positive change.

It goes without saying that the finer details below will display the well-rounded knowledge you expect from your therapist. For more information, please click on each subheading below. Also, you’re welcome to contact me here,

Who are ChatterSoupe clients?

Many people have decided to meet with me to stir up healing and re-season their lives as necessary. These adult men and women who are ready to slow down, look inward, and start feeling better –not just functioning better. ChatterSoupe clients represent ages from early adulthood leading well into retirement. I provide services for individuals, couples and groups; more information about each of these services is located here.

A variety of people choose to work with me. Some include: emergency personnel, physicians, military members and family, attorneys, business owners, newlyweds and new parents, parents of children with special needs, and couples considering divorce. Often they’re navigating:

  • Persistent anxiety or low mood that no longer feels manageable
  • Trauma symptoms that quietly shape daily life or relationships
  • The weight of stress, grief, or life transitions
  • The desire for healthier communication and deeper connection with themselves or their significant others

Some have tried therapy before; while others are taking their first brave step. All share one thing in common — a willingness to commit to the process, talk honestly, commit to truth, and begin the work of healing. So, if you are seeking warmth, professionalism, and progress you can actually feel — you’ll likely feel at home here.

My Approach & Values

Overall, therapy with me isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. It’s conversational, curious, and collaborative. Whether we’re unpacking anxiety, healing from trauma, or building stronger communication in your relationships, our time together focuses on helping you find clarity and connection. Prepare yourself to indulge in deep-seated thoughts with lots of self-examination and reflection. In these instances, I’ll teach and invite you to address symptoms and concerns by folding in evidence-based methods like:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
  • Strategic and structural theories
  • Emotionally-focused techniques for relational healing

Specialties

My recipes don’t fit everyone. Rather, my expertise is best suited for symptoms aligning to these specialty areas. There are some diagnoses I’ve found I am unsuited to offer services for and it would be a disgrace to engage otherwise. I believe and hold sacred The Bible and that our Creator made only men and women. And, that marriage is between men and women in covenant with our Savior. However, please contact me if you are uncertain and we can explore potential options.

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Grief Support
  • Trauma Recovery
  • Relationship and Communication Building
  • Life Transitions and Personal Growth
  • Parenting Support
  • Post-therapy Coaching Collaboration with Golden Dialogue TM

Outside the Office

Occasionally, my green thumb appears and so do flowers and vegetables. As equally important is practicing my artisanal breadmaking skills because I’ve discovered its tasty rewards. Also, finding peace in nature through hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, or simply breathing. When music strikes my soul, you might hear me croaking out a tune or kicking up the dust with my beginner line dancing skills.

I celebrate my marriage of more than 30 years to Jason, raising three children to adulthood, and now engaging in grandparenting. Without a doubt, I quietly enjoy life and talking with Jesus Christ, my Savior, is of huge importance to me. In all, I believe balance is essential and I attempt to practice what I help my clients develop: confidence, calmness, and clarity along with rest, rhythm, and resilience.

Personal Beliefs & Journey – for a little more flavor

First, before we meet and as you consider a therapist, I’ve done the work for your investment. Let’s begin with integrity. It’s a top characteristic for myself and what I look for and help others develop.

Next is trust: A vital piece of all healthy relationships and must be practiced within your Self. Further, there’s nothing embarrassing about asking for help and leaning on a shoulder.

Then, compassion, curiosity, calmness, care, and empathy are daily essentials for self-leadership and success. When you possess these, you are able to share the same.

Adding in another layer by incorporating and evaluating healthy boundaries with everyone with whom you interact. Having hard lines and soft lines while remaining true to yourself is a non-negotiable.

Lastly, the need for a life compass to prevent loss of identity. My compass is through Jesus Christ. Knowing myself in this way came about through the struggles and experiences I endured. Add in a mix of humor, learning new things, and taking some risks help to create balance.

Let’s Start a Stirring Conversation

Thank you for taking the journey with me this far. Now, I invite you to continue by taking the next step.

“Every good conversation starts somewhere. I’ll meet you where you are — and together, we’ll simmer up something meaningful for where you’re headed.” — Amy Belval, MS, LMFT.

It’s time to meet the therapist, virtually.
