HIPAA- Compliance
It’s a common acronym but, the law behind it is not understood by most people. HIPAA (or Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) really pertains to the confidential information shared by your healthcare provider (employees and/or partnered vendors) with others who legally need access to your information and the information is being shared electronically.
This means when you receive communication from your provider (i.e., therapist, dentist, psychiatrist, primary care physician, cardiologist, podiatrist, etc.), they are required as a “covered entity” to ensure that all identifying information about you is kept from anyone else obtaining it. And, this includes your email address.
Our new partner
We’ve partnered with Hushmail to ensure our contact with you is HIPAA-compliant. That is, email is encrypted from the minute the send button is pushed until it hits your inbox.
Why? If you are like most people, you prefer to use your work email for personal contact due to convenience. We understand. However, because the email servers belong to your employer, they legally have the right to collect all data from any electronic correspondence and can have people read it, if they so choose.
This, of course, has the potential to disclose your healthcare information to a third party that you really wanted to remain private.
Options are available for privacy
Now, when you receive an email from us, you’ll be directed to a secure web page to read it. Also, if you reply, there will be an option for you to assign a password to the email exchange.
When you started working with ChatterSoupe, it’s likely your therapist encouraged use of the online secure messaging portal. The secure text-like messaging is still available for you to use at no additional cost; we’ve just provided you a new, secure option.
Of course, there’s the traditional phone call too that we invite you to use. Just know that the our phone lines are not live answered and you will be directed to leave a voice mail message.
